Due to the complexities of devolution, the Northern Ireland Assembly is not legally obliged to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions in line with the rest of the UK, even though it has signed up to the Westminster Climate Change Act.
The Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly have both set their own targets in order to keep pace with England. Now it's time for Northern Ireland to do the same. Otherwise we run the risk of being left behind while others make the transition to a low-carbon economy and reduce their impact on the world's most vulnerable societies.
Join us in calling for a Northern Ireland Climate Change Bill to be passed by Stormont so that we can play our part in averting global catastrophe whilst future-proofing our own economy from energy shortages and creating thousands of jobs in the process
